One of the most impressive of Monet’s series was devoted to Rouen Cathedral’s west portal. Like most of the Impressionists Monet’s interest does not rest in the subject or architectural elements of the cathedral, but with the light as it bounces off the facade and casts deep, shifting shadows in the recesses.
