Isenheim Altarpiece after Grünewald
The Isenheim Altarpiece has a very distinctive and identifiable silhouette with its side panels and interesting predella. It is the most important Northern Renaissance piece of art depicting the crucified Christ covered in sores. It was commissioned for St. Anthony’s Hospital where patients were suffering from an awful disease that covered them with painful lesions.
